Have You Any Question
What is ISPM 15 heat treatment?
ISPM 15 (International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15) is a global regulation established by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). It requires all solid wood packaging materials used in international trade to undergo approved treatment – either heat treatment (HT) or methyl bromide fumigation (MB) – and bear an official IPPC stamp. Heat treatment involves heating the wood core to 56°C for a minimum of 30 consecutive minutes.
Do all my pallets need heat treatment for export?
All solid wood packaging materials (pallets, crates, boxes, dunnage) used for international export must be ISPM 15 compliant. There are limited exemptions for processed wood products (plywood, OSB, veneer) and packaging with a thickness of 6mm or less. For most pallet applications, heat treatment is required.
How do I know if a pallet is heat treated?
Heat treated pallets bear a clearly visible IPPC stamp showing the country code (AE for UAE), treatment code (HT), and a unique registration number. The stamp should be legible and not painted over or faded. We also provide certification documentation with every order.
Can used or recycled pallets be heat treated?
Yes. Used and recycled pallets can be heat treated to ISPM 15 standards, provided they are structurally sound and free from pest infestation. They will receive a fresh IPPC stamp with the treatment date and provider registration. We offer heat treatment for new, used, and recycled pallets.
Is heat treatment the only ISPM 15 approved method?
No. ISPM 15 also approves methyl bromide fumigation (MB). However, heat treatment (HT) is preferred for environmental and worker safety reasons. Methyl bromide is an ozone-depleting substance and increasingly restricted globally. We recommend heat treatment for all export pallets.
